How to Change the World on a Weeknight

Tammi DeVille to appear as a guest on Shining Bright, Regina Sisco's radio program.
Tammi DeVille is the author of Changing The World On A Tuesday Night. Have you thought about volunteering and never thought you had the time? Tammi has extensively researched opportunities for volunteering that don’t take up much of a person’s time. But her point is that it doesn’t take a lot of time or even specialized expertise to make a genuine difference in people’s lives. An expert on volunteering for the time challenged, Tammi will describe how ordinary people can make a huge difference even if they only have as little as five minutes or a couple of hours a month or week to spare. It may sound too good to be true, but she’ll explain how you can change the world on a Tuesday night while holding a full-time job! She will be on VoiceAmerica’s radio talk show, Shining Bright with Regina Sisco, on Friday August 17, 2012 at 10:00am Pacific Time.

“Many of us want to make a difference, but have no idea how to fit volunteering into our busy schedule of work and family commitments,” Deville shares. We know about soup kitchens and nursing homes, but those opportunities don’t necessarily inspire all of us. Through vivid storytelling, Tammi DeVille shows us how to discover a cause that resonates with—and expresses in just a little bit of time— our own gifts and passions.

A busy professional herself, Tammi has found time to volunteer on a regular basis. She currently mentors a young boy in South Africa via web cam and provides marketing support to a nonprofit that creates transformational creative workshops for at-risk youth. Tammi is a storyteller and a connector in the volunteer world; she contributes Volunteer Spotlights to VolunteerMatch.org, and is constantly on the lookout for unique and compelling volunteer opportunities.

She is listed in the top 10 in the volunteer category to follow on Twitter. Tammi noticed that everyone who heard about her volunteering adventures had the same basic set of reactions “It's so great that you do that.” Or “I would love to do some volunteering.” The problem, she concluded, was not that people didn't want to help. It was that they just didn't quite see how they could. They would also say, “I don't know where to find opportunities I'd be interested in.”

And being a 'get things done' kind of person, she set out to do something about it. She wrote a book, profiling some actual busy people who do amazing things to change the world. Tammi spent 2 ½ years hunting down interesting volunteers with interesting projects. She found 32 different photographers who saw the chance to make a difference too and got the pictures. Today, she's the author of a book, really the manager of a project and a voice for volunteering. But mostly, she's someone who knows what a difference a few hours can make in the world and in your own life.
